Double Shot Injection Molding

Double shot (also called 2-shot or multi-shot) injection molding molds two different materials or colors into one part in a single machine cycle. The result: soft-touch grips, integrated seals and two-color aesthetics that would otherwise require glue, press-fit or a second operation.

From Inquiry to Delivery

First Shot: Rigid Substrate

The structural part (PC, ABS, PP or PA) is injected into cavity A at the molding temperature, packed and cooled to a solid substrate.

Rotate or Index

The mold rotates 180° on a rotary platen — or the core indexes to the next station — so the cooled substrate now faces cavity B without leaving the machine.

Second Shot: Elastomer or Second Color

TPE, TPU, TPV or a second color is injected over the substrate while it is still warm enough to weld; a chemical bond and a mechanical interlock form at the interface.

Cool, Eject, Ship

The two-material part cools, ejects as one piece and is trimmed of gate vestiges — no assembly station, no adhesive, no press-fit, no alignment risk.

Rapid tooling uses softer materials and simplified construction for fast, low-cost validation runs (hundreds to low thousands of parts). Production tooling uses hardened steel for high-volume, long-life programs.

How long does injection mold making take?

Rapid tooling prototypes can be ready in days; production tooling typically takes several weeks depending on complexity, cavity count and steel grade. We confirm a detailed schedule with your quotation.

Do you provide DFM feedback?

Yes. Every quotation includes a design-for-manufacturing review: draft angles, wall thickness, gate and weld-line locations, tolerance recommendations and cost-saving suggestions — before any tooling is cut.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept STEP, IGES, STL, X_T and 2D drawings (PDF or DWG). A 3D model lets us quote most accurately; 2D drawings are used to confirm critical tolerances and specifications.

How do I get a quote?
