HOW IT WORKS

From Inquiry to Delivery

First shot: rigid substrate

The substrate resin (ABS, PC, PA66, PP…) is injected into cavity A and cooled just enough to hold its shape. Shot 1 accounts for roughly 60–80% of the part volume and carries the structural loads.

Rotate or index the tool

The core rotates 180° or the platen indexes, carrying the substrate into cavity B. Tool alignment is held to ±0.02 mm on the registered surfaces so the second shot lands exactly on the first.

Second shot: overmold material

TPE, TPU, TPV or a second rigid resin is injected around and onto the substrate. The interface stays hot enough for melt-to-melt fusion — that is where the chemical bond forms.

Bonding, cooling and ejection

The two melts fuse at the interface while mechanical interlocks (undercuts, ribs, texture) add pull-off resistance. Parts eject fully formed — no gluing, no assembly, no fasteners.

Automated inspection

In-process checks and dimensional sampling on our 18+3 Sodick machines keep controlled dimensions in the ±0.02 mm band run after run, with full lot traceability.

What quality inspections do you perform?

What is the difference between rapid and production tooling?

Rapid tooling uses softer materials and simplified construction for fast, low-cost validation runs (hundreds to low thousands of parts). Production tooling uses hardened steel for high-volume, long-life programs.

How long does injection mold making take?

Rapid tooling prototypes can be ready in days; production tooling typically takes several weeks depending on complexity, cavity count and steel grade. We confirm a detailed schedule with your quotation.

Do you provide DFM feedback?

Yes. Every quotation includes a design-for-manufacturing review: draft angles, wall thickness, gate and weld-line locations, tolerance recommendations and cost-saving suggestions — before any tooling is cut.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept STEP, IGES, STL, X_T and 2D drawings (PDF or DWG). A 3D model lets us quote most accurately; 2D drawings are used to confirm critical tolerances and specifications.

How do I get a quote?

Two-Shot vs Overmolding: Which Process Fits Your Part?

CycleTwo-shot molds both materials in ONE cycle — typically 20–40 s. Overmolding runs two separate cycles (substrate first, second shot later) at roughly 30–60 s total.
ToolingTwo-shot needs a rotating/index tool on a two-color machine — higher tool cost, lower per-part cost at volume. Overmolding uses two conventional tools and any standard press.
BondTwo-shot bonds melt-to-melt while both resins are hot — the strongest and most repeatable bond. Overmolding relies on adhesion plus mechanical interlock with a colder interface.
Assembly costTwo-shot eliminates gluing, welding and snap-fit assembly — competitor benchmarks show assembly cost cuts of up to 40% on converted programs.
