Aluminum Oxide Blasting

Glass Bead Blasting

Spherical soda-lime beads producing Ra 0.4–2.5 μm satin sheen with minimal material removal — the standard cosmetic finish for visible consumer and appliance parts.

What Is Sandblasting?

Sandblasting propels abrasive media at high velocity against a part surface to clean it, texture it or strip it. Depending on the media — glass bead, aluminum oxide, steel shot or soft plastic — the process can produce anything from a fine satin sheen to a deep matte anchor profile, and it does so without the heat, chemicals or dimensional change of other finishing routes.

In precision manufacturing, blasting plays three roles: it creates a uniform cosmetic texture that hides molding witness lines and small surface marks; it prepares surfaces for paint, powder coating, plating or adhesive by increasing surface area and roughness; and it removes flash, scale and burrs from molded and machined parts. Because the result depends on media size, pressure, angle and dwell time, we establish a reference sample at the prototype stage and lock those parameters for production. Applications

Sandblasting is specified whenever a uniform texture, a coating-prep surface or clean edges matter more than a glossy cosmetic finish:

Frequently Asked Questions

Will sandblasting change my part dimensions?

No. Blasting removes only microns of surface material. When critical features are masked, machined bores, threads and sealing faces hold their original tolerance exactly.

Can you sandblast plastic parts?

Yes. Molded thermoplastics are blasted with soft or plastic media at reduced pressure to remove gate flash and create a uniform matte texture without warping or whitening.

What surface roughness can you achieve?

From Ra 0.4 μm with fine glass bead up to Ra 6.3 μm with coarse aluminum oxide — we tune media, pressure and cycle time against a surface-profile sample you approve before production.

Do you mask critical machined surfaces?

Yes, masking is standard practice for every blasting job. Threads, press-fit diameters, sealing faces and optical surfaces are protected so the finish goes only where it is specified.

How long does sandblasting add to lead time?

Typically 2–5 days. Prototype and small batches ship in 7–12 days total; mass production in 25–30 days.
